Island peak (6,189 m) also known as Imja Tse Peak located on top of Chhukung glaciers between Ama Dablam and Lhotse. It is most popular climbed peak in Everest region. This mountain was named “Island Peak” in 1952 AD, by a climbing team of Eric Shipton, due to its striking location in the middle of the Chhukung valley, like an Island on a sea of ice. The adventure starts from lukla, after short scenic flight from Kathmandu. You trek continue to Namche, Tengboche, Dinboche, Chhukung which are the most popular Sherpa town on route of this adventure. Island peak offers spectacular view of Himalayan range like Nuptse, Lhotse, mount Makalu, Baruntse and Ama Dablam. Other prime attractions of this activity are glacial moraines, suspension bridges, monasteries, prayer rock, colorful settlements and Sagarmatha national park. Island peak expedition is difficult, but not technical so a physically fit person with basic climbing technique and information can trek in this region. Those who are looking for more challenging trek, Everest base camp with island peak is another best option and good for the altitude. Inhabitant of this region, ethnic Sherpa people are very friendly and welcoming. This peak climbing can do any time of the year but spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best months of the year.We may need few extra days for this trip due to Lukla flight, the flight to Lukla totally depending on the weather.
